Description
The Parish of the Holy Sacrifice, is a landmark Catholic chapel on the University of the Philippines Diliman campus. More popularly known as the UP Chapel, the church was constructed under the supervision of Fr. John P. Delaney, who began ministering to the spiritual needs of the campus in 1947. The PHS is the only structure in the Philippines where the works of five recognized National Artists can be found. It is also the 1st structure in the Philippines to use the first 3,000 psi concrete for its iconic thin shell dome structure during its time.
Known for its architectural design, the church is recognized as a National Historical Landmark and a Cultural Treasure by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, and the National Museum of the Philippines respectively. It was designed by the late National Artist of the Philippines for Architecture, Leandro Locsin, together with UP graduate geniuses Engr. David Consunji, Engr. Alfredo Juinio. Structural, electric and water systems were by Felisberto G. Reyes, Lamberto UN Ocampo, and Jose M. Segovia with Agapito S. Pineda.
DMCI Homes, the real estate arm of DMCI Holdings through its wholly owned subsidiary DMCI Project Developers, Inc. (PDI) together with other experienced Specialty Contractors worked on rehabilitating the 65-year old national historical landmark and cultural treasure by repairing its old and worn-out concrete structural members and resurfacing & repainting its interior and its exterior concrete facade. For the chapel’s rehabilitation, DMCI Homes did a series of consultations with UP officials and UP Parish to address the immediate needs of the chapel and to ensure that its original state of beauty and elegance was maintained when the repairs were executed. DMCI PDI facilitated the repair of concrete structural members, masonry cracks, de-clogging of downspouts and drains, and the installation of new electrical fixtures.
